The Apostle John wants the reader to know ...

Jesus is the Light of the world ...
- The Light shows the power of God, reveals the purpose of God and makes the proclamation of God.
- Power - Creation.
- Purpose - Creation's relationship with God.
- Proclamation - Creations relationship with God is to be an active one.

The creation only bears witness to this Light ...
- We are not the source of this truth.

The creation only bears witness to this Light wehn God reveals it to them.
- God is the one that opens hearts, minds and ears to receive the truth about Jesus Christ.
- As followers of Jesus, our lives and our voices are to be a megaphone God uses to communicates this truth to the world.

Jesus is the Light of the world that became flesh to show creation how to live in the truth of God's holiness and the grace of God's forgiveness.
- God desired His holiness and forgiveness to be more than philosophical concepts though.  As Jesus Christ became flesh, we see them lived on this Earth.
- Jesus became flesh to show how a person keeps all of the commands of God.
- In Jesus we see our need.
- Jesus became flesh to show how God forgives those who break his commands.
- In Jeses we see our how our need is met.

Followes of Jesus do not become God in the flesh.  However, we must do what Jesus did in shining the light of God in this world.
- Followers of Jesus must live truth and grace.
- Followers of Jesus must speak truth and grace.
